This past weekend I attended my first Heroes Con as an exhibiting artist and I can truly say it was a wonderful experience. The show was filled with incredibly friendly people and extensive rows of talented artists. A huge thank you to all the amazing people that came by the table, your support means the world to me! I really enjoyed talking to each and every one of you.
One of my favorite parts of the show was meeting up with friends I’ve made on Instagram and Twitter over the years. The show also served as a mini reunion with good friends from college, pinup artist Boardinker and indie comic creator John A. Carvajal. They both recently appeared on Drawventure Live this month — if you haven’t seen it yet, make sure to check it out on the Juicy Ink YouTube channel, they both have helpful insights to share. I also got a chance to meet with Hansel Moreno, writer of the comic Adventures in Nate’s Perilous Challenge. A few months ago Hansel commissioned me to create an illustration of the comic’s main character, Nate. You can watch the process video for that illustration here. On the right are sweet treats from him. Hint hint, you can read The Witches Laugh on his website, go read it now!
I usually don’t take commissions at shows since I love talking to the attendees so much, and I like to devote my full attention to commissions, but I thought it would be fun to change it up for once. Below are a two con commissions from Heroes, Dawn from Pokemon and X-23. I’m very thankful for the great requests I receive, I enjoy each one!
Another cool thing I love about comic conventions are sketchbook commissions, I’m a huge sucker for these. It’s a true treat seeing these carefully curated collections jam packed with talent. More so, I’m beyond honored to be a part of each book. Here is a cute Snow White sketch I did for a Disney theme sketchbook.
I couldn’t believe how super nice everyone was at the show, I will definitely return! I just wish I got a chance to talk to more artists and pick up more indie art books. Time flew by so fast I was having so much fun.
